I received an email last week from a new family in our church. If you were in our 9:40am service you received an extra blessing in praying for Baby Regan. Let’s continue to lift this family up. They have brought us closer in the presence of God.
Dana gave me permission to share her email. Keep praying!
Pastor Todd, Thank you so much for taking the time to read my email. My name is Dana Newberry, I met with you after the 9:40 am service on Sunday with a prayer request for my daughter Regan; she is 16 months old and is in Mount Ararat Access Ministries. My husband is in the Air Force and stationed at Quantico MCB and we also have a 7 year old named Kindell. We’ve been attending Mount Ararat since we moved here and have felt very much at home, both in service and with the wonderful people that attend. On May 17, 2007 Regan Astoria Newberry was born and in June 2007, we discovered Regan has disabilities; she has microcephaly (small brain) and calcifications in the frontal lobe of her brain. The doctors believe something happened between the 3rd and 5th month of pregnancy, which cause the brain damage. Only time will tell how Regan’s body will responded. Regan is 16 months old, but developmentally a 2 to 3 month old; we have been told Regan will never walk, sit, crawl or speak. In June 2008, Regan started having seizures; it is vital to her health and life expectancy to stop the seizures. Currently Regan takes 4 different types of seizure medications and one steroid injection daily. These medications have taken a toll on Regan’s body and none of them are working. In September, we were encouraged by Regan’s doctors to try the Ketogenic Diet. This is a high fat, adequate protein, low carbohydrate diet, used to treat difficult-to-control epilepsy (seizures) in children. The diet mimics aspects of starvation by forcing the body to burn fat rather than carbohydrate. You can find more on this diet at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketogenic_diet . We’ve been told that this diet has a 50% success rate; if it works we can terminate the medication. This Monday, the 29th, Walter Reed Hospital will admit Regan for 3 to 4 days to start the Ketogenic diet. James 5: 14-15 says ”Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the lord will raise him up.” Please join us in praying for our daughters health; for the lord to comfort her and heal her. Sincerely, Dana Newberry

I have had the honor of meeting the Newberry family! What a friendly, faith-filled family. They are always smiling. Regan, Kindell, the Newberrys and all of Regan’s doctors are in my prayers.
The prayer time at the end of the 9:40 service was incredible! Although I wanted to stay with the Newberrys and pray, I moved away when you asked some members of the prayer team to spread out. As I continued to pray, I had an amazing opportunity to see a congregation – broken, crying, interceding. The Holy Spirit was definately in control. It was overwhelming! Is it not like the Holy Spirit to be working in the hearts of the rest of us while we interceded for a child and her family!? What an amazing service! My heart still goes out to the Newberrys and I will continue to pray.
