On Tuesday January 20, 2009, Barack Obama will be sworn in as the nation’s 44th president, and first African American in that office.  As we reflect today on Martin Lurther King day, and tomorrow during the 44th Inauguration, may we experience the impact of these days.  Regardless of where you stand politically, there is something beautiful in seeing this historic event.  Time will share what kind of leader he will be, regardless as Christians we have been called to pray for him.

Let’s be faithful during these days to pray for our leader.  May we also remain faithful to preaching and living the gospel of Jesus.  May God continue to bless America!

In Hebrews, listen to a request from a spiritual leader:

“Obey your leaders and submit to their authority.  They keep watch over you as men who must give an account.  Obey them so their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.  Pray for us (Leaders).  We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way.  I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.  May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and he may work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever, Amen.” Hebrews 13:17-21
