En Gedi is an oasis along the western side of the Dead Sea about 35 miles southeast of Jerusalem. Has the only natural waterfall in Israel. This has created a semitropical area amidst a dry and arid land. This area grew henna blossoms, medicinal plants, and beautiful flowers.
Solomon’s wife describes her relationship using the image of En Gedi:
“My lover is to me a cluster of henna blossoms from the vineyards of En Gedi…How handsome you are, my lover! Oh, how charming! And our bed is verdant (green and plush).” Song of Songs 1:14, 16
She is describing her marriage as being a place of rest, a refuge, refreshment, and renewal. This is what God is calling us to. Are you experiencing En Gedi or is it currently like the dead sea? Let God and His word in!
