The first quote I heard out of Haiti:
“What was important yesterday, was not important today.” Haiti
Isn’t that true, the things that make us tense, stressed, and spun up about might not have the same affect if something were to happen that shakes us to our core? If an earthquake struck Stafford, would your priorities change? Would you give your minutes to other things, and would you drop what you are doing right now, and do something more urgent (important)!
When we get stuck in life, we often think there is no way things can change. The more sobering truth is that making a change is not the problem, finding motivation to change is really the challenge. We can all come up with a list of why this or that cannot happen or why that will not change. We are all full of excuses of why things remain the same (or maybe stuck), until…
Until our wife says, “I cannot do this anymore.”
Until our boss says, “We are going to move the organization in another direction, and you are not a part of where we are going.”
Until you get the call, “Your child has been in a serious accident.”
Then that time you could not find, you will now find. All of a sudden you can leave work, and go!!!
It is not that you are incapable of making a change, its that you have not been motivated yet.
Don’t wait for the earthquake! Or just imagine the ground moving you to do what you need to do, TODAY! What needs to be important today?
