As we continue our teaching, REIGN, we ask the question about how we are leading our outer life and our inner life. The temptation is to focus on the outer since that is what people can see. The problem is that a decaying inner life shows up quickly. To give you some perspective, lets take a quick look at JOB.
JOB:
He loses his business, his wealth, his health, along with all 10 of his children. At the peak of this agony, his wife mocks him, and his friends jeer him, and accuse him. And even heaven falls silent.
People, events, evil schemes, disasters, catastrophes, can take things away [Outside things], but it cannot touch heart, soul, and character [Inside things].
How do you face pressure?
What helps you stand?
What allows you to ability to move through hard seasons?
JOB’S Masculinity rested
- Not on what he owned
- Not the size of his house
- Not in investments
- Not in performance
- Not in achievement
- Not in people he knew
- Not in his status in the community
JOB’S endurance was built upon a foundation of God. He continued to trust God when everything else when the outside world was crumbling. He had given his heart [inner life] to God. Character shows up with the outer life gets tested.
What about you?
