Quick Excerpt from Tender Warrior, Chapter 2:

David looked around him with disbelief.  “Hey!  Look at what’s going on around here!”  he was saying.  “Is everybody blind?  This isn’t right!  Who is this lumbering ox to defy the armies of Yahweh?  Don’t you guys know who you are?  You are Israel and this idol-worshipping Philistine is trying to stand in your way!”  So David stepped in and took the initiative.  He extracted Goliath like a bloody tooth and guess what?  The troops woke up.  And remembered their duty.  And remembered their training.  And remembered their mighty God.  With a roar they charged across the valley to engage their enemy.  That’s what made the son of Jesse king, because kings are provisionaries

Something for Your Soul

From Tom Strickland

Men I know this stuff seems hard, but Paul tells us all we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).   How are your relationships going with your wife, with your children, your moms and dads, with your friends?  You know, relationships are not always easy to keep on the up and up.  They tend to be really tiresome sometimes.  But if we look at the verse above, we don’t have to rely on ourselves to strengthen us.  Christ is the one who we need to turn to we things are going bad and when thing are going good.  You see Christ is also our example as believers to turn to.

Peter encourages us as husbands to live with our wives in an understanding way.  Why is this, so we won’t have our prayers hindered.  How is your relationship going on a 1 to 10 scale with your wife?  Do you treat her as Christ would?  What language does your wife speak?  Get in there men and study that beautiful bride of yours.

Paul encourages us as fathers to bring up our children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Eph. 6:4).  We are responsible not our wives men.  In Malachi 4:5-6, “I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes.  He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers”.  How is your heart?  Has it turn toward your kids?  Are they frustrated at you because you can’t keep your promises?

The wisest man to ever live tells us that “Two are better than one because they have good return for their labor.  For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion.” (Ecclesiates 4:9).  Jesus encourages His disciples of this: “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.  You are My friends if you do what I command”.  How many of you can say you have one that you can stand in the fox hole with and fight the enemy?  We need each other men.
