2010 – Mount Ararat’s Year of the Tender Warrior - March 20 – 26th
READ: Tender Warrior, Chapter 6. Under Orders – A Man and His Leadership …work through “Let the Truth Hit Home”, pages 102-103
BE ENCOURAGED: Consider reading, re-reading, and maybe even memorizing one of the verses listed at the bottom of The 20 Second Ask.
SHARE: Share your actions/responses to the Tender Warrior chapter questions with other men one-on-one or in your small group/home group.
CHALLENGE: Are YOU man enough to take the 20 seconds to accommodate the “ask” mentioned below?
The 20 Second Ask…
Chapter six is a very hard-hitting and challenging chapter on the call for men to exercise authority and accountability in leadership…for me one of the hardest of all so far. Does its message tempt you to shy away from further reading this book or, more importantly, from seeking a deeper understanding of and commitment to God’s word and the application of God’s principles in every area of your life or does it inspire you to press on?
As if asking you to read and share your perspectives and answers with another man or other men in new or existing small group relationships isn’t enough, we’d like to present you with one additional ask just for this week. It will take you 20 seconds (30 tops) and can be done from the comfort of wherever you are right now. It will cost you nothing. It will not result in your being asked to do anything, your getting any additional emails or calls, or your being called out.
Last week we mentioned a few categories of where we all fall. They included the following three:
-
1) This is slightly encouraging, if only I could keep up with the readings and the questions consistently.
2) I read and even answer a few of the questions, alone.
3) I read and answer the questions and share them with at least one other man for accountability.
Our “ask” is that you simply hit reply on this email, put the number 1, 2, or 3 in the body of your email to indicate where you find yourself regarding this study series, and then hit “send”. We will capture no names, no reasons, no excuses, and make no judgments. The only thing we will capture and preserve from this feedback is a series of numbers…nothing else (I will delete your email upon receipt after capturing the number).
The challenge of Tender Warrior is our spiritual growth and increasing dependence on God and God’s word. Right now for us, our common vehicles for that challenge are our text by Stu Weber, and the connection and relational accountability of another believing man or a group of men (in either existing couple’s or men’s groups or in newly developing ones).
For men who have shared feedback or their thoughts on this series already, thank you! We ask for this anonymous feedback now only so that we can prepare for our upcoming Men’s Breakfast (Saturday, May 15th) and so we can ensure that we remain accountable to assisting in meeting your needs then and each week until then in prayer and encouragement. Your anonymous feedback will help us to know where we all are, and how we can best align our programs and resources to meet the needs of men. Regarding where you are, consider the following:
If I am a #1 – 1 Timothy 3:16 – 17 – keep up with the Church’s daily Bible readings and make time for reading a page or two of this book daily as well. Then set aside a few minutes one day of the week (Fridays work best for me) to answer the questions.
If I am a #2 – Hebrews 10:24-25 – do the above, and also establish or reinforce getting together with one or more other believing men with a focus on spiritual challenge and encouragement…make intimate fellowship and accountability the rule, not the exception! If you are looking for a small group activity to connect with, consider April 25th’s GroupLink briefing from 5 – 7pm at Noah’s Café in Mount Ararat. Grouplink is an event where you can meet and connect with others in your community and stage of life to join or form a small group or home group. To register for the event, go to the Sign-Up Center. Childcare is available for infants through grade 5.
If I am a #3 – 2 Timothy 2:2 – do the above and consider the need in our church for men to lead small groups (either couples or men only) so that you can not only grow from your activities, but also invest what you are learning in the lives and hearts of other men who can likewise invest what they learn in others as well. If you are feeling called to lead, consider April 18th’s HostLink briefings lasting 20-30 minutes following each Mount Ararat worship service that day in room 134. Take this first step to hosting a small group or home group at Mt. Ararat.

1. Attending a First Look Lunch…If you have recently attended one of our services and are now wondering…”What’s next?”, we can help! Designed as a first step for new guests, this free, casual lunch and Q&A session with the Connection team and pastors will begin your process to becoming a member.
2. Attending Membership Matters…Have you been attending Mount Ararat for awhile and think you’re ready to make a deeper commitment to the ministry and mission here? Then, this is the next step in your journey. Attend this class to learn our vision, strategy and beliefs…and become a member.

4. Joining a Small Group…Whether it’s a small home group that meets weekly or bi-monthly in various homes on different nights of the week, a Sunday school class that meets one of the three hours on Sunday morning here at church, or a short term study group that meets for a set number of weeks usually here at church, small groups are the place to develop friendships and learn how to apply what God says in His Word to our everyday lives.
