This past Sunday, we looked at the relationship of Elijah and Elisha. God answered Elijah’s lonliness in sending him to Elisha. This was a great example of a discipleship relationship. We all need people. We all need people to follow, to lead, and to walk with. Perhaps you were convicted in realizing you are not currently being discipled by someone. If this is you, it is time to do something about it. Are you ready to take a step into the deep end of the pool. Begin praying for that godly man or woman to lead you. When you find the person ask them to begin meeting with you on a regular schedule.
Then ask them:
- How do you read and study the Bible?
- How do you pray?
- How do you worship?
- How do you share your faith with others?
- How do you serve others?
- What does your day, week, month, year, look like in you following Jesus?
These are just some prompts to get started. You could spend a good length of time (several sessions) on just one of these questions. In asking these, be prepared to write down the answers so you can process them and begin to live them. As you learn, find someone to share your findings with.
God has called us to be a disciples!
Thank you for this insight. I have always taught that each person needs three others in their lives; A Barnabas, a Paul and a Timothy. Barnabas was an encourager, a mentor who will take you under his wing and guide you through the landmines of life, sharing his successes and failures. Paul is a confident, an accountability partner who will answer the phone at 3 AM and pray with you. Timothy is a spiritual son who you can guide and lead sharing your successes and failures. ANd I tell them that if you do not have these people in your life, pray to God and He will provide. Thanks for showing me another way to express this Godly concept.
