This past Sunday, I began preaching, Simply Christmas. We are looking at the Matthew and Luke to return to the simplicity of the Christmas narratives. As Protestants, we are leary of talking too much about Mary. We often fly by her at Christmas or prop her up when speaking to our teenagers about True Love Waits. I am not advocating we worship her, but we would do well to take a look at her example of responding immediately to the Words of God.
She was confronted by an angel (which is scary in itself) and told by Gabriel that she was going to deliver Jesus to the World. I cannot think of a great requests throughout all of scriptures. Can you imagine? Let me just say for the record that any request God gives you will be lesser than what He asks Mary to do.
Look at her response:
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.” Luke 1:38
Wow! She did not ask for more time. She did not ask to go talk to her family. She did not ask to pray about it! She simply embraced these words and this request as her life.
Revelation demands a response!!!!
Monday afternoon, two young Marines who have been worshipping with us the past several months through TBS came to be to be baptized. Last Sunday was their last Sunday, and they shared they needed to get baptized before they leave to their next assignment. The Holy Spirit told them through the Words of Sunday that they needed to obey immediately.
So I baptized them Monday afternoon with two other Marines watching on along with Neil and Gwen assisting me.
