      Sobering Quote

The first quote I heard out of Haiti:

“What was important yesterday, was not important today.”  Haiti

Isn’t that true, the things that make us tense, stressed, and spun up about might not have the same affect if something were to happen that shakes us to our core?  If an earthquake struck Stafford, would your priorities change?  Would you give your minutes to other things, and would you drop what you are doing right now, and do something more urgent (important)!

When we get stuck in life, we often think there is no way things can change.  The more sobering truth is that making a change is not the problem, finding motivation to change is really the challenge.  We can all come up with a list of why this or that cannot happen or why that will not change.  We are all full of excuses of why things remain the same (or maybe stuck), until…

Until our wife says, “I cannot do this anymore.”

Until our boss says, “We are going to move the organization in another direction, and you are not a part of where we are going.”

Until you get the call, “Your child has been in a serious accident.”

Then that time you could not find,  you will now find.  All of a sudden you can leave work, and go!!!

It is not that you are incapable of making a change, its that you have not been motivated yet.

Don’t wait for the earthquake!  Or just imagine the ground moving you to do what you need to do, TODAY!  What needs to be important today?

      Praying for Haiti

This morning, I woke up to the news about the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti.  The pictures were of the devastation was too much to bear.  Homes, businesses, palaces, were all brought to rubble.  The number wounded and dead are already too numerous to count.  It is a hard to imagine that  a few moments of the earth shaking can bring such devastation.  My family felt the need to stop and pray for these people who have lost so much.  Haiti is more personal to our family because our Compassion International Child is from Haiti.  Roubert L. Jean Francious has been a part of our prayer life for the past three years.  He lives in Carrefour Dufort, Leogane, Haiti.  We are praying for he and his family well being.  We are also praying for Pastor Josue Wagnuc and his congregation.  May God be glorified through this tragedy.  May the gospel be shared in Word and deed.

Mount Ararat, may we be faithful in praying for the people of Haiti.  We are already asking questions of how we might respond as a church.

“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed.  We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.  For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body.  So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.”1 Corinthians 4:7-15

“Therefore do not lose heart.  Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  for our light and momentary trouble are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes on not was seen, but what is unseen.  for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

      It’s Personal

I took some time to share vision this past Sunday.  The Bible shares that we are called to make disciples.  Our strategy is to connect people to God, to one another, and to serving the world.   Three relationships – Three environments God — Worship One another — Small Groups World — Service  To make a commitment to God is personal.  Your friends and family cannot...

      Let’s Spiritually Grow

This past Sunday, we visted the story of Samuel (1Samuel 1-3).   From the story, I shared these four thoughts. 1.) Spiritual growth happens in the presence of God.  1 Samuel 2:21 2.) Spiritual growth is vertical and horizontal.  1 Samuel 2:26 3.) Spritual growth is responding to God’s call.  1 Samuel 3:10 4.) Spiritual growth is receiving God’s Word.  1 Samuel...
